India’s ‘knitwear capital’ caters to famous brands and retailers from all over the world, offering handsome discounts in a fiercely competitive market. No wonder it is also known abroad as India’s ‘Dollar City’.

With knitwear exports of over $2 billion a year, India’s garment manufacturing hub Tirupur has earned the nickname “Dollar City,” but its allure for price-conscious global retailers obsessed by discounts of as little as one U.S. cent pales before Bangladesh.

Tirupur is located in Tamil Nadu, about 47 km from Coimbatore.The textile industry based at Tirupur, provides employment to over six lakh people and has an annual turnover of Rs 22,000 crore, according to estimates.
