Chief minister Siddaramaiah is trying to galvanize the bureaucracy, which seems to be operating on a different plane.
“People are looking for a change in the attitude of bureaucrats. The government is giving its mind-share to them and I am hopeful of results,” he said at the interaction with newspaper editors.
During a three-hour meeting with senior police officers recently, Siddaramaiah directed them to make police stations citizen-friendly. In Bangalore, the jurisdictional DCPs will be held responsible for the functioning of unauthorized live bands, video parlours and other underworld activities.
“If Congress wants to give a corruption-free government to the people, it should begin at home. Only a sincere person will have the moral courage to speak to officers with conviction. For instance, transfers are generally where corruption begins in the government. It is for this reason that we have come out with new guidelines on transfers,” Siddaramaiah said.
