In a first for the State, the Election Commission will keep a close vigil on proceedings at sensitive polling stations through web-casting Five to six such polling stations have been identified in every constituency where proceedings will be streamed live to control rooms for deputy commissioners to keep a tab.
Webcasting will be introduced in over 1,100 polling stations across the State, said Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha on Wednesday. Control rooms in the districts will be set up at the respective deputy commissioner’s office, while office of the chief electoral officer on Seshadri Road here will house the City control room.
The measure is being adopted in the State after its successful implementation in the Gujarat Assembly elections. Video cameras will also be planted at sensitive booths and central reserve forces deployed to avert any untoward situation, Jha said.
When asked whether footage would be made available on the commission’s website, Jha said the project “will be implemented on a pilot basis to help election officials to monitor the polling stations. There won’t be any live streaming on the election commission website.”
